Science for Junior High Schools Basic 9
The textbook, as guided by the Ghana Education Service curriculum, has been structured into five main broad learning areas known as strands, with 20 sub-areas referred to as sub-strands. There are three Learner's Books and three Teacher's Books covering the Junior High School Science learning area.

Each sub-strand begins a new topic with learning indicators which represent the clear outcomes or milestones that learners have to meet the content standard expectation.
The strands covered in this book are as follows:
Strand 1: Diversity of matter
With sub-strands as materials covering matter, the periodic table of elements, and living cells, which address cell structures and their functions;
Strand 2: Cycles
With sub-strands as earth science– the hydrological cycle; life cycle of organisms– life cycle of the housefly; and crop production– plant nutrients; and animal production;
Strand 3: Systems
With sub-strands as the human body system– human feeding and nutrition; the Solar System– the inner planets of the solar system; ecosystem– food chains, the food web, and biomes; and farming systems;
Strand 4: Forces and energy
With sub-strands as energy– types of energy, modes of heat transfer, properties of light; electricity and electronics– forms of electricity generation, electronics; conversion and conservation of energy; force and motion– Newton’s first law; and agricultural tools;
Strand 5: Humans and the environment
With sub-strands as waste management; human health; science and industry; climate change and green economy; and the environment.
A complete package is made up of the learner’s book and the teacher’s guide.
